University of Louisville Foundation

James Ramsey

The foundation was established in 1970 to provide financial support to the university’s students, academic staff, schools, colleges and libraries. The school’s president, James Ramsey, is also president of the foundation and one of the 15 directors on the governing board. Its endowment’s stocks and other investments exceed $1 billion, making it one of the state’s biggest.

The foundation has made headlines recently, particularly over compensation it has paid to Ramsey and other top administrators. There also have been calls to separate the presidency of the university and foundation.

Here’s its GuideStar profile, where you can find current IRS tax returns with annual revenues, expenses, compensation to top officers and other financial information.
