Yum quarterly results due today; China unit draws interest

YUM reports any moment now. Analysts were expecting earnings per share of 83 cents vs. 80 cents a year ago. Revenue is forecast at $2.66 billion vs. $2.62 billion. Yum investor relations. YUM shares. Major holders. Today’s results follow reports that China’s sovereign investment fund is considering buying Yum’s mammoth China operations in a consortium that includes private equity shop KKR & Co. The China Investment Corp.-led group was doing due diligence on the business, which could be valued at $7 billion to $8 billion, according to CNBC and Bloomberg.

In other news, two big apartment complex developments — including one on the site of the Phoenix Hill Tavern in the Highlands — may be in jeopardy without richer financial incentives from the city (CJ).

PAPA JOHN’s and PIZZA HUT: As consumers get more comfortable with autonomous delivery — robots to you and me — a restaurant industry that already uses cutting edge logistics services could start adding delivery robots in the coming decade. Indeed, Domino’s — arch rival to Papa John’s and Pizza Hut — is already giving a trial run to its “DRU” robot in Australia; watch Domino’s Robotic Unit video. DRU follows Domino’s introduction last October of a delivery van equipped with a special warming oven that’s easily accessed from outside.

TEXAS ROADHOUSE is adding bee hives at its corporate offices on Dutchmans Lane, a symbolic step drawing attention to the nation’s beleaguered bee colonies. (C-J).

YUM: Pizza Hut is tricking out its boxes with images of Ironman and Captain America as part of its marketing tie-in with Marvel Comics’ May 6 release of “Captain America: Civil War.” The campaign is also aimed at pizza box collectors like Scott Weiner of New York City, who’s got more than 600 boxes and a book about his stash. AMAZON extends same-day delivery to Louisville — even on Sunday; details. The retail behemoth and big local employer also disclosed executive pay in a filing yesterday, once more revealing virtually all of CEO Jeff Bezos‘ compensation was the $1.6 million cost of his personal and corporate security. Amazon has 6,000 area employees.
